Living with grief
Grief doesn’t follow a schedule. Some days are harder than others, and that’s normal. It can help to:
- Talk about the person you’ve lost with people who knew them
- Keep simple routines: meals, sleep, a short walk
- Let friends help with practical things
- Mark anniversaries and holidays in a way that feels right
- Be patient with yourself and with others who are grieving differently
When to ask for more help
If grief feels too heavy to carry, or it isn’t easing over time, talk with your doctor, your clergy or a grief counselor. If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, any time.
Please call us at (718) 424-2000, any hour, day or night – we are here to help and answer your questions.
