Mery O Valencia

Passed on August 2, 2026

In Loving Memory of Mery Orfelinda Valencia Rodriquez de Asmad

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mery Orfelinda Valencia Rodriquez de Asmad, who entered eternal rest on August 2, 2026, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, at the age of 91.

Born in Trujillo, Peru, Mery was the youngest of four children born to Maria Rodriquez and Ismael Valencia. She was preceded in death by her beloved siblings, Alfredo Valencia Rodriquez, Clemencia Valencia Rodriquez, and Jorge Valencia Rodriquez.

A devoted Catholic, Mery lived her life with faith, strength, and an unwavering dedication to her family. She was a loving homemaker whose greatest joy was caring for those she loved. She was admired for her resilience, her unmistakable sense of humor, and her refreshingly honest nature. Even through times of pain and hardship, she found ways to laugh and bring smiles to others.

Mery was first married to Moises Cumpa, now deceased, with whom she welcomed six children. Later, she found the love of her life in Ramiro Gilberto Asmad Castillo. Together they shared nearly 60 years of marriage, built a beautiful life together, and were blessed with four children. Their enduring love was an inspiration to all who knew them.

She was the proud mother of ten children—six sons and four daughters. She was preceded in death by her first son, who passed away before his second birthday, her tenth son, who passed away in 1997, and her sixth son, who passed away in 2025.

She is lovingly survived by her children in Peru: Pedro Cumpa Valencia, Isabel Cumpa Valencia, Moises Cumpa Valencia, and Marcela Cumpa Valencia; and by her children in the United States: Absalon Asmad Valencia, Mery Asmad Valencia, and Alba Asmad Valencia.

Her family was the center of her world, and her home was always filled with love, laughter, and the delicious aromas of her cooking. She was especially known for preparing her famous cabrito and ceviche, meals that became treasured family traditions and brought everyone together around her table. Sharing food with those she loved was one of the many ways she expressed her generous heart.

Mery leaves behind a remarkable legacy through her 22 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, each carrying forward her love, strength, and spirit.

Though our hearts are broken by her passing, we find comfort in knowing that her love, wisdom, humor, and memories will remain with us always. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and she will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

May God grant her eternal rest, and may perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.
