Carlos A. Solano, affectionately known as Los or Carlito, passed away on September 11, 2024, in Elmhurst, NY, at the age of 43. Born on April 13, 1981, in New York, NY, Carlos lived a life full of passion, loyalty, and a deep love for his family and friends.
Carlos was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Enriqueta Castro-Padilla and Lucas Castro-Vera, his father, Carlos H. Solano, and his uncle, Librado Castro. He leaves behind a legacy that lives on through his devoted mother, Enerolisa Castro, his siblings, Liza M. Solano, Lisa Solano, Carlos Georgie Solano, Lenny De Los Santos, and Carlos Elvin Solano, as well as his nieces and nephews: Nijah, Imani, Leilani, Christoff, Ethan, Giada, Carolina, Luka, Mia, Dhaynan, Daliana, and Dheyleny. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and an extensive network of friends and coworkers who had become family to him. Carlos also shared a loving bond with his beloved Jessenia Guzman, who brought joy into his life.
Carlos attended Saint Teresa, Saint Leo, Long Island City High School, and Katherine Gibbs. He was a proud and highly skilled professional painter with the D.C.9 Union, where his dedication to his craft shone brightly. Outside of work, Carlos was a passionate songwriter, with a love for music that spanned a wide variety of genres. Carlos loved to travel with plans to visit his homeland of the Dominican Republic this year.
Carlos had an adventurous and compassionate spirit, particularly toward the elderly, an underdog, and animals, especially dogs. From a young age, his love for Bruce Lee inspired Carlos to embraced martial arts, with him achieving the rank of red belt in Taekwondo. Later in life, he took up boxing and showed a natural talent in the sport.
Known as a student of life, Carlos was deeply curious and invested in learning about the world around and beyond him. He was known for his intelligence, with an ability to discuss a wide range of topics, from social issues and politics to finance and entertainment. Carlos was also a God-fearing and God-seeking man of faith.
To know Carlos was to know loyalty and love. Entering a friendship with him was like entering a brotherhood—he was always there, giving his best even during his hardest times. Family meant everything to Carlos, and he frequently made plans to spend quality time with those he cherished most. His infectious laughter, sharp wit, and comedic nature brought light into every room he entered. Carlos was a joy to those who knew him.
Carlos was a man defined by his heart. He embodied love, respect, loyalty, and protection. His unwavering heart, sense of honor, and deep compassion set him apart as a true legend among us. Truly, he was one of a kind. His presence will be missed beyond measure, and his memory will continue to bring comfort and inspiration to all who had the honor of sharing life with him.
Though his physical absence will forever leave a void, we have gained an extraordinary guardian—our guerrero—who will watch over us. As children, we were taught to honor those who proceeded us in death… Our Legends are our Ancestors. As you leave our world and transition to the next you now sit amongst them. We will forever keep your legacy alive. We will seek justice in your name. You are now our angel with his wings.
Carlos, our Legend, enjoy the Heavens, for you were always more than enough and it is time for your eternal peace. We love you deeply. Fly high.
