Edelyn Del Carmen Collado

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edelyn Del Carmen Collado, a beloved daughter, aunt, and friend. Edelyn was a shining light in the lives of all who knew her, and her infectious laughter and warm heart brought joy to everyone around her. Early in 2021 she began a battle with COVID and the resulting lung disease, well after the world thought the worst of the pandemic was behind us. She fought long and hard, beating the odds time and time again until it became too much for her to bear. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Friday, December 30th, 2022 at Long Island Jewish Hospital at Forest Hills.

Edelyn was an angel and miracle from the moment she was born on February 26, 1992. Having been born with Down Syndrome into a world that can often be so cruel to those that are different, she was never short of love or care for and from everyone around her. Her laughter was contagious, and her hugs were pure. She was a creative and passionate person, with a deep love for coloring, dancing, and spending time with her family. She was a loving aunt to her nephews and nieces, and her love for them knew no bounds. Edelyn was also deeply loved by her extended family, and she will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Edelyn was a kind and caring person, and her generosity and compassion touched the lives of everyone she met. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she left behind. Rest in peace, Edelyn. You will always be loved and remembered.

Edelyn is survived by her parents, Gumercindo and Silvia Collado, who she loved with all her heart. Her “Papito” and “Mamita” meant everything to her. Her brothers, Jose “Eddy” Collado and Edgar Collado, who she was so proud of. Her nieces and nephews, Ayana, Joseph, Christian, Jonathan and Julian, who she was always thinking of.
