Carmen Chamorro
February 4, 1938 – May 10, 2026
Carmen Chamorro, née Ramos-Solórzano, passed away on May 10, 2026, at the age of 88.
Carmen was born on February 1, 1938, in Granada, Nicaragua, to Justo Ramos and Carlota Solórzano. She later lived in Managua, where her daughters were born, before making the brave decision to move to the United States in the 1960s. She came to this country with little formal education, but with great courage, determination, and a deep desire to build a better life for her family.
In her early years in the United States, Carmen worked as a hairdresser, later serving her community as a cook for the New York City Public Schools. Through hard work and sacrifice, she helped create opportunities for her children and took great pride in watching her family grow and succeed.
Above all, Carmen was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Her family was the center of her life, and she will be remembered for the love she gave, the traditions she carried forward, and the quiet strength she showed throughout her life.
Carmen enjoyed sewing and knitting, creating with her hands and sharing her talents with those around her. She also had a special love for sweets, a small joy that reflected the warmth and sweetness she brought into the lives of those who knew her.
Carmen is survived by her loving daughters, Martha Lopez and Ligia Mercado; her beloved grandchildren, Jason Lopez, Melissa Mercado, Matthew Mercado, and Jonathan Mercado; her cherished great-grandchildren, Evie, Emilia, Ethan, Chloe, Hudson, Noelle, Tiannah, and Nolan; and her sisters, Connie and Maria. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Justo Ramos and Carlota Solórzano, and by her elder brothers, Domingo Ramos and Justo Ramos.
Carmen’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew and loved her. Though she has passed from this life, her love, lessons, and spirit remain woven into the lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
